Streamlining Imported Car Logistics Boosts Kamux's Profitability

Kamux's collaboration with Bahn Express, which began in 2024, has drastically cut the time spent on importing cars purchased from abroad, from weeks to just a few days.

Kamux is a familiar name to consumers in Finland, Sweden, and Germany. Established in 2003, this used car retail chain has grown into an international network of almost 70 stores. Since its founding, Kamux has sold nearly 600,000 used cars.

The company's business model leverages rapid inventory turnover and a first-class customer experience. Kamux is a pioneer in the industry, combining its physical store network with digital car sales.

Faster inventory turnover, better margins.

In the used car business, fast inventory turnover means that trade-in cars or cars purchased directly from other sources are quickly resold. Swift inventory turnover is crucial for efficient capital utilization. Also, many models’ value depreciates quickly.

Kamux sources many sought-after cars from abroad. Often, these vehicles are listed for sale even before they've arrived at the dealerships. When a customer finds a suitable car online and wants it quickly, seamless logistics is critical for the customer experience. So, what happens when car transport from abroad becomes radically faster?

Emilia Savenius, Kamux's Purchase Support Manager for the past six years, knows the answer. Emilia has witnessed firsthand how improvements in logistics efficiency impact the entire business.

We visited Oulu to chat with Emilia about her work.

What kind of expectations do you face in your work?

When discussing with our salespeople, they always wish that cars traveling from abroad had arrived yesterday. This is a big challenge for our logistics team.

Expectations for logistics operations are currently quite high. We always strive to find a solution that is both fast and cost-effective.

How long did car deliveries from abroad to Finland typically take before the collaboration with Bahn Express?

We used to get our cars delivered to Finland in about two weeks. That might sound like a short time, but for us, every single day is valuable.

Pilot Phase Opened New Possibilities

How did you end up collaborating with Bahn Express?

We started working with them after a pilot phase. We were extremely satisfied with the promised delivery times and reasonable prices. The balance between the cost and delivery time was excellent.

What's the biggest difference between Bahn Express and other car transport companies?

Bahn Express drivers drive the cars directly from the seller to us. Traditional transport companies load cars onto trucks. This often leads to a lengthy delay between the freight order and the car pick-up. More time is also consumed for delivery after pick-up. Now, we get cars from Sweden in about three days. Even from Germany, delivery takes, on average, only five days. This is a very significant factor for our sales personnel and significantly improves our customer experience.

Additionally, Bahn Express provides us with a digital CMR upon delivery. For example, in cases where we have to make a claim about the car to the seller, we need a CMR.

"Speed affects our profit very much. The faster we get cars to our showroom, the more profit we make.”

Collaboration Continues

Savenius is pleased with the results achieved, but work continues. Kamux's operations across three countries demand continuous logistics optimization.

It's great to see how concrete improvements in logistics affect the entire business. Everyone benefits when cars move faster: our sales teams, our customers, and ultimately, the entire company.
